Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. SchoolTool Parent Portal is a Web-based access portal that allows parents to view information about their child’s educational program, as well as how their son/daughter is doing in school.

Q. Who can access SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. At this point in time, SchoolTool Parent Portal may only be accessed by middle school and high school parents and students.

 Q. How do I access SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. All high school and middle school parents should have received a Parent Portal application from the district, attached to their students report card, on the afternoon of January 15.  Please fill out the application and return it to the high school office.  When your account has been created you will receive an email with your temporary password.

• Returning users should visit: Parent Portal to log in.

Q. Why didn't I get an e-mail with my temporary password?
A. If you did not receive an e-mail with your temporary password and you recently submitted your information, it may not yet be entered into the system. New addresses are being entered every day so please be patient as the district works to generate account information for all parents.

Q. I currently receive School News Notifier (SNN) alerts from the district. Does this mean that my e-mail address is on file for the purpose of creating a SchoolTool Parent Portal account?
A. SNN accounts are completely separate from the SchoolTool database--meaning, just because you receive SNN alerts from the district does not mean that your e-mail address is on file with our student management system. They are two distinct applications and cannot be cross-referenced for the purpose of creating a parent portal account.

Q. Do I need any special software to access SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. No, you do not need any special software to access the portal. Parents only need Internet access. Please note: SchoolTool seems to work best when used with either the Internet Explorer or Safari browser.

Q. What will I find once I log on?
A. You will be able to see scheduling information and attendance information for all of your child's classes through SchoolTool Parent Portal. For most classes at the high school and middle school, you will be able to see assignments and due dates, as well as grades on previous work and class grades. You will also be able to send emails directly to teachers and view important messages and reminders throughout the school year. For more information, please read our guide for parents (PDF).

Q. Will I be able to see all grades received on assignments?
A. Schoharie is presently phasing in full use of the program. At this stage, not all classes are using the grade book feature, so assignments and grades are not posted for all courses. For all classes that are using the grade book, all assignments will have grades posted. Please remember that the any grades reported in the portal are grades in progress—the only official grades are those on Report Cards sent home at the end of each quarter.

Q. What exactly is an assignment?
A. An assignment is not just homework, but could also refer to tests, quizzes, participation, class projects, etc.

Q. What can I do if I see that my child has a low grade on assignments?
A. The best thing to do would be to contact the teacher and talk about your concerns.

Q. Am I able to e-mail a teacher while I am in SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. Yes. To e-mail a teacher via SchoolTool Parent Portal, simply click on the teacher's name in the "Schedule" tab. An email interface will open, allowing you to send an email directly to the teacher.

Q. Who should I contact if I have questions about my child’s records as shown on SchoolTool Parent Portal?
A. If you have any questions about the information you see on the portal or about your child’s performance in general, please do not hesitate to contact his/her teacher or school counselor.
